Vintage, One-of-a-kind, American Standard. These basses are limited in number and are very sought after for their incredible sound.
This bass is labeled #320. This bass is in amazing condition and plays better than any other American Standard or New Standard I have ever seen. It still has the original finish, original neck and original tuners. I have had significant reinforcement done to the neck block. The overstand has been increased to make playing in and out of thumb position easier, along with a new ebony fingerboard and the string length reduced to 41.5". A new bridge, tailpiece and endpin have also been added. All work was done by Michael Hartery.
I used this bass as a solo jazz bass, it plays like butter and is very easy on the left hand. This bass is also the LOUDEST bass I have ever owned. I almost never need an amp.
Given all the work I have had done, its great condition, the sound, playability and rarity, I am asking $5,900.
Feel free to email me if you have any questions, want more information or for more pictures.

This wonderful sounding old 3/4 size carved bass, ca. 1900, was formerly owned by the late Harold Siegal, Chicago studio musician and educator. It plays extremely evenly in all registers and features a punchy Jazz pizz sound and a singing arco. Ive played it on recordings by The Rob Parton Quartet, Bob Lark featuring Phil Woods, Mark Colby Quartet and Greg Fishmans "Saxophone Etudes" play-along series and it records beautifully. It is also the arco bass heard on the Contrabassconversations.com theme song as played by Jason Heath.
It was set up in 2006 by master luthier Scott Henrie, is healthy and ready to make music!
Upper Bout 19-7/8”
“C” Bout 14-1/4”
Lower Bout 25-3/8”
Top Length 43-3/4”
Ribs 6-5/8” to 7-5/8”
SL 41.5” (41.75 at nicks)
Carved Back
Drilled for the Laborie/Rabbath endpin
$17,500.00
The bass is located in the Chicago area and can be seen by appointment. More pictures available.

Im the original owner of this BSX Half Note Acoustic Electric. Beautiful looking and playing bass but I just do not use it enough, for the past few years its sat comfortably in its TKL soft case in the closet.
This is one of the first BSX Half Notes built and it sports the Bartolini piezo, position dots, tummy rest and the Spirocore strings. Cosmetically its in very good shape, there are a couple of small nicks, one on the headstock and one on the body.
These sell new for $1995 but Im just checking to see if theres any interest. I havent seen any Half Notes second hand for sale at all. Located in upstate New York.

have a great John Juzek double bass for sale! $4,000 OBO I just bought a bass because i saw that it was left unplayed for 30+ years and completely unplayable! I didnt really need this bass, but it was a shame to have this sitting around in a corner, with what looked like the original gut strings on it (yuck!)! Now that she is singing, it is time to find a good home for her! The label reads "John Juzek: Violin Maker in formerly in Prague, made in Germany". The back is stamped 1962. From my understanding, John Juzek never made basses but this was imported and probably at one point owned by the NYC public school system. There was a crack in the back that the lad I purchased the bass from said she had repaired in 1999 or 2000. It seems to be a solid repair. The sides, again from my own research, appear to be sprayed as opposed to hand rubbed, but the top and back are hand-rubber. It is a solid carved instrument. It is a little smaller than my 3/4 bass, though I am told also that Juzek never made a 5/8ths instrument - and this is definitely not a half-size. The sound is really beautiful though it is not extremely loud. I think this would make a great jazz bass! Im still breaking it in after not being played for 30 + years and having a bunch of work done. I had the neck sanded, new synthetic gut strings, fingerboard planed, new bridge, new tailgut, endpin removed (it was non-functional) and a stub put in, Rabbath endpin drilled, and all of the costmetics repaired on the instrument. I would really love to find her a good loving home where she will be played all the time! Pics available upon request!
I currently live in Upstate NY in the fingerlakes region. I am down in NYC for work at least once a month, usually more. I could bring the bass with me. I also come to baltimore once in a while, but would only drive that far if I am sure of a sale. Please come play on her if you can!

1944 Kay M-1, vintage sunburst, number 11809 and in excellent condition. This bass is 100% gig ready; it needs nothing to improve the sound or its playability. I am letting this bass go to help fund the purchase of vintage Epiphone bass. I will give the best, most accurate description of the bass that I can. For anyone who is far away from southern PA and can not audition the bass in person we have a flight case and can ship anywhere in the USA provided you are willing to pay the freight cost and a refundable deposit on the flight case. I can accept a USPS money order, Pay Pal or cash in person.
Here is the description starting with the original condition, the repairs and then the upgrades:
Original condition:
Starting at the scroll, it was missing one volute on the E side that we have replaced and expertly finished to match the vintage sunburst color. The scroll has the Kay script insignia at the base of the scroll head. It has the original Kluson brass tuners and they are in excellent working condition (no missing parts, all original screws). The neck is in perfect, unbroken condition and has retained 100% of the original finish…the neck shows no wear on the back or signs of being played. The fingerboard is the original Rosewood and the nut is ebony. The body of the bass is the original vintage sunburst with the typical double black Kay pin stripe. The bass has NOT been refinished. It does have a few blemishes but nothing worth pointing out. The bass has retained the original ebonized Kay tail piece and 75% of the original Kay script decal is still in place…this is rare to find a Kay bass this old (64 years old) and still has a good portion of the original Kay decal in place. The internal paper Kay label is in excellent condition and can been seen through the E side F hole. The sound post and bass bar are all original and in good working order.
Repairs:
The missing volute on the E side was replaced and color matched to the bass with artist colors and oil varnish. The neck has been reset because it was loose when we purchased it. We used fresh hide glue for the neck reset and neck is now in correct playing alignment. The neck reset repair will make this Kay bass solid for years to come. The Rosewood fingerboard has been dressed, scooped and lightly oiled. There are no signs of string wear on the fingerboard and there is plenty of “meat” left for future re-dressings. All the open seams have been repaired with hide glued and the nicks have been touched up…there were very few wear marks on this bass.
Upgrades:
The bass has been given a new USLA German, high quality, ebony cork lined adjustable end pin with the extra large removable tip. A Clef Hi-Tech tail gut to replace the original Kay tail wire. A new maple bridge hand carved and fit from a French wood bridge blank. New Thomastik Spirocore Weich (light) strings. The nut was cleaned up, grooved and adjusted for a comfortable playing action. The sound post has been reset for maximum tone and volume.
The overall health of this bass is A+; it needs no additional repairs or set up to be enjoyed. It is 100% gig ready. It is comfortable to play, beautiful to look at and has a big growl. We are asking $4,250 to serious buyers.
Here is a slide show in photobucket...I am not happy with the order of the photos...but you will get the big picture.

For Sale:
Juzek 5 String Bass
Carved German
¾ Size
41.5” String Length
Located in Sarasota, Florida
$8500 OBO
This is a nice solid bass with minor cosmetic blemishes, but NO structural damage or needed repairs. The soft case is pretty shot, but will include a nice Brazil wood bow and upright stand.
The bass has very nice big sound that is great for orchestral work (I played it in orchestras throughout Florida) It also has good action for jazz, but there is no pick-up (I usually used a microphone or played small rooms).
I have not played seriously for a few years and need the money for a new business, so while it pains me to say good-bye, I will take the first serious offer. Local pick-up preferred, if not, shipping arrangements are buyers responsibility.

This 3/4 bass bears no label inside--it boldly delivers what a mere label cannot: that sought-after warm, mature sound, both pizz and arco, that youll love.
It has undergone numerous repairs, especially evident on the neck, but all the fixes are solid, leaving no open seams, cracks or buzzes.
Ive always imagined owning a bass with this exceptionally authoritative sound. While it might lose the swimsuit competition to one of the shiny new imports, this is a mid-price bass that roars and sings--an easy winner in the talent category against your choice of newbies.
The vital statistics:
--D neck --Gamba style --dark varnish
--upper bout: 20 3/4" mid: 15 1/2 lower: 25 1/2
--body length: 43 1/2 string length: 43 1/2
--new Obligato strings installed June 12, 2008
I only bought this bass several months ago, thrilled to have discovered "the" bass at last, but several financial exigencies have arisen, so reluctantly, I must sell.
E-mail: ufobass@aol.com
Due to the cost and perils inherent in shipping, I am selling in or around Southern California only.

Attention musicians:
Hello, my name is Nathan Peck.
I am putting the word out on a stolen bass.
My Acoustic Bass was stolen from in front of my
apartment building in Jackson Heights, Queens, on
Friday May 30 at around 12:50 am as I was returning
from a gig.
Its in a dark blue Soundwear gig bag. The word "Pfretzchner" is
printed inside as well as an old label with the words "Kichier Bros. Pgh PA" and a newer label with the name "Bill Merchant" who is a luthier in Manhattan.
The bass is a red/blondish color. There is a small chip in the
scroll. It has a Fishman Full Circle on it.
This is no joke. This is my lively hood.
If anyone happens to see something matching this
description please try and buy it and Ill triple your
money.
I ask for you help in keeping an eye out for my
instrument.

A fully carved 3/4 unmarked East German bass from the mid-1960s that I purchased at Footes in London in 1974. Footes told me that it was from the Otto Rubner workshop, but I have no documentation to prove that. Gamba form, steeply sloping shoulders, attractive honey color. New fingerboard and adjustable bridge in 2003. 42-inch string length. Includes fitted B-Band D-1 pickup and sturdy new Lemur padded canvas case. Set up for 4-strings but has 5-string tuning machines. Very solid and well-cared for over the years. Currently set up for jazz, with Helicore Pizz strings, but would make a nice student orchestral bass with different strings. Very easy to play. A warm sound that compares favorably to much more expensive basses. Pictures available on request. $3,995.00

This bass is a 3/4 size and looks to be all original with the only repair being the twisted wire tailgut replaced with flexible cable. I have researched as best I can and believe it to be a late 1930s William Lewis and Sons. It has no label inside but a sticker from Selmer Paris on the back next to the endpin. It has beautiful scroll work of the purfling on the back. It is a laminated bass with good figure on the outside. It has Thomastek strings on it and medium action. It has a very loud balanced sound from treble to bass. The fretboard has no wear and the bass is in very good condition overall with no need for any repair. The neck alignment on this bass is very good with bridge sitting exactly centered between the "f" holes. Please contact me for more information and pictures.

NS Design CRT Model Electric Upright Bass. A very nice bass action is good plays very similar to a double bass. The scale of the neck is exactly the same as a double bass. The exclusive Polar pickup has 2 modes of operation, "arco" and "pizzicato", that may be blended together. When blended equally (balance control centered) the response is similar to an acoustic upright. The arco mode enhances sensitivity to the bow, and the plucked response is extraordinarily percussive. In the pizz. mode the percussive attack is reduced for a smooth sustained response. Bass and Treble EQ controls, in combination with the Polar pickup options, provide tremendous tonal range. It comes with a very nice gig back and stand and i could give you my copy of the evolving bassist by rufus reid if you want. Im kingston witch if you dont know of it, it is about half between Toronto and Ottawa. I may be willing to go lower on the price. Email me for more details
